Following the Easter bombing and during the COVID-19 crisis, Mr Hilary Mathiasz, an English tutor from the remote town of Tissamaharama in southern Sri Lanka, witnessed the financial hardship faced by many families and approached AUSLMAT for assistance. This led to the establishment of the Keep Kids in School (KKS) Project in July 2020.
The KKS programme supports children from financially disadvantaged families in remote and rural communities, helping them remain in school and complete their education through Year 12. For many families who depend on daily wages, the cost of basic school necessities can be a significant barrier to education.
For just AUD $120 a year, you can sponsor a child and help provide essential educational supplies, including textbooks, stationery, school uniforms, shoes and school bags. By removing these financial barriers, the programme enables children to stay in school, focus on their studies and work towards a brighter future.
With the support of our sponsors, more than 120 children have benefited from the programme, with over 10 students completing Year 12 and progressing to tertiary education or employment.
100% of donations go directly towards the educational needs of the children, with no administrative costs. Sponsors may also maintain contact with the students they support and receive annual updates, including school reports.
For just AUD $120 a year, you can help keep a child in school, give them the opportunity to complete their education, and open the door to a better future.
Please contact Dr. Hashinee Weradurage on +61 433 524 417 if you are interested in sponsoring a student under the KKS programme.
